If you’re a foodie looking to sample some of St. Lucia’s authentic street food while visiting the island, You should check out Dukes Place on the Gros Islet waterfront.
My wife and I usually take our Airbnb guests there on a Friday or Saturday night, but mostly on Friday when the place is buzzing with visitors and locals who come to the Gros Islet Street Party.
Duke’s Place is both a visitor and local favorite, and it is usually packed on Friday nights.
One of the best things about Duke’s place is that you get to see the grilled fish prepared right in front of you, and many visitors also appreciate this.
Our local grill masters prepare the fish on very large open grills, ensuring it’s cooked to perfection before being served.
While this is all happening, you can smell the smoked fish all around you, and the smoke adds to the entire experience.
And the aroma of the smoked fish will likely make your mouth water while you wait.
Once the fish is grilled and ready to be served, you can choose sides like rice, salad, fig salad, and local bread.
In addition to the fish, Duke’s Place also serves the popular Lambi, which you can have together with the fish or as an alternative to the fish.
Many types of fish may be available on the day at Duke’s Place because they work with the day’s catch, and the fish is always fresh.
However, whatever fish is available on the day is always amazing because it’s seasoned and perfectly grilled.
Duke’s Place opens at about noon and closes at 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. However, it usually gets busy from about 6:00 p.m. because it is very popular, especially among visitors coming to the Gros Islet Friday night street party.
So if you come later in the evening be prepared for a long wait.
But the grilled fish at Duke’s is some of the best you will taste in Saint Lucia, so it’s worth the wait.
Oh, and I forgot to mention Duke’s fantastic onion vinaigrette, which will excite your taste buds when served with the fish.
Duke’s Place is one of our favorite street food spots in the north of Saint Lucia. Visitors we’ve introduced to this experience love it!
If you’re ever in the north of Saint Lucia, whether on holiday at a hotel or just visiting for the Gros Islet Friday night street party, you should check out Duke’s Place to get that local, authentic St. Lucian food experience.
If you can’t make it on a Friday night, they’re also open on Saturday nights—they’re open only on Fridays and Saturdays.
Duke’s Place is located right on the Gros Islet town Waterfront.
